Clear, intelligent... practical and sensible... It is an essential beginning (The Artist) Not only a book about drawing, it is a book about living. This brilliant approach to the teaching of drawing... should not be dismissed as a mere text. It emancipates (LA Times) This innovative, landmark book should be required reading for all art students (American Artist) A landmark in drawing tuition (Leisure Painter) I'd recommend the book highly - there's literally no downside (Management Today). Betty Edwards is a retired professor in art at California State University. She continues to lecture extensively, at universities, art schools and businesses and she is a consultant at many leading creative businesses.. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is the world's most widely used drawing instruction book. Whether you are a professional, a student, or enjoy art as a hobby, Betty Edwards' practical step-by-step guide to drawing will give you greater confidence in your ability, deepen your artistic perception and provide a new way to appreciate the way you perceive the world around you. Edwards breaks down first steps to ensure the reader has a practical grounding that will help them improve and have fun learning more difficult techniques. Edwards gives her expert advice on what materials to use and the importance of making a record of your starting point, with three key exercises: drawing a person from memory, a self-portrait, and drawing your hand. With great advice on how to look at these first attempts, she provides the reader with a guide to measure their progress and the ability to understand what you are doing and learn from every attempt so that none are wasted. The later sections of the book focus on perceiving edges, spaces and relationships within your drawing before applying these skills in solving problems and ultimately being free to continue on your own. Edwards will help you to shift to the right side of the brain that utilises more intuitive and artistic aspects of thinking.

Recomendable, genial, excelente Genial!! Es impresionante todo lo que puedes aprender y a qué ritmo! Muy bien explicado, buenos ejecrcios, didáctico y efectivo,
The "after" one was a lot more realistic and it got a lot less impact from my own opinion of my facial features (although I have I got both this one and the workbook. It took me 10 days to the point of the "after" self-portrait. Well, as you can see in the picture. The "after" one was a lot more realistic and it got a lot less impact from my own opinion of my facial features (although I have to say neither of them look exactly like me, which is what I hope to achieve.) I enjoyed reading the theories in the book. It totally updated my knowledge about realistic drawing. I am a psychologist myself. Scientifically, I have to say that the theories are fatalistic but some part of them still lack enough solid evidence. However, it does not matter that much, as long as it works and enlightens people! I hope this book can cover more on shading. I am so bad at it. The chapters on lines and shapes really improve my observation skills. I am a lot less stressed when it comes to drawing an outline of a real object in 3D environment, but I am still quite stressed when it comes to shading.
New section on creative problem solving exactly what I've been looking for. When I was in high school this book took me from being unable to draw anything at all to creating a portfolio for a tough audition for an art school. I passed the audition and went to art school but switched later from art to engineering. I've never forgotten how to draw and how to slow down and see. I know this book also trained me to be better software developer but I've never been able to explain why; the new section on applying these techniques beyond drawing explains it for me, and make the steps to general problem solving and creativity in other domains explicit. I went for the hardcover version because this is the one book I'd take with me to a desert island.
