Do yourself a favor and skip the Dawkins and Harris; they're smug, turgid, and boring, with all the human feeling of a tax return. Read Hitchens instead... A tendentious delight, a caustic and even brilliant book... Thank God for Christopher Hitchens. -- Mark Warren * Esquire * Dazzling... A campaign to put this glittering anti-theist tract on the national curriculum for "religious education" should begin here. -- Johann Hari * Independent * Hitchens is a grand rhetorician, and his double-barrelled shotgun of a book is high entertainment... As with Voltaire, his scornful laughter is a powerful weapon. -- Christopher Hart * Sunday Times * The anti-religion case has never been put so well, so comprehensively or so definitively as in this razor-sharp book... Hitchens accumulates a devastating case... Outstanding. -- A.C. Grayling * Independent on Sunday * Christopher Hitchens is a master craftsman of argument... God is not Great is undoubtedly the most boisterously entertaining contribution to the [atheism] debate. -- Siobhan Murphy * Metro * God is not Great is easily the most brilliant and fascinating contemplation upon the role of religion in human society in recent times, the Das Kapital of a tolerant, if exasperated, atheism. -- Kevin Myers * Irish Independent *. Christopher Hitchens (1949-2011) was a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and Visiting Professor in liberal studies at the New School in New York. He was the author of numerous books, including works on Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, George Orwell, Mother Theresa, Henry Kissinger and Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as the international bestseller and National Book Award nominee, god Is Not Great.. God Is Not Great is the ultimate case against religion. In a series of acute readings of the major religious texts, Christopher Hitchens demonstrates the ways in which religion is man-made, dangerously sexually repressive and distorts the very origins of the cosmos. Above all, Hitchens argues that the concept of an omniscient God has profoundly damaged humanity, and proposes that the world might be a great deal better off without 'him'.
Good book, perfect conditions Although the book is smaller and lighter than I expected is still in strong enough to be carried around in a backpack. The content itself is incredible and Hitchens manages to very eloquently explain and develop his thesis. Elegant yet simple enough for the general public to comprehend. Great book for people of all ideologies.
It lives up to all expectations This is a great book to read, and very necessary to sum up all arguments of an atheist, but also brightly written. However I regret not having bought a better edition, since this one is rather poor, very tiny letters and poorly printed.
Not great at all. Always there, brilliant, incisive... an atheist's must. And also a must for any believer. Let's leave fantasies aside. Religion is hell, secularism is salvation.
The very best of Hitchens his greatest book Every humanist, atheist, and undecided should read this fine book telling the truth and facts about religion(s) and god(s) being most likely man made. It is either life changing in a good way or will scare those who still believe in one of the gods. I could not put this book down and was only saddened when I reached the last page and realised that the great Hitchens is sadly no more.
Logic and reason The idea of a god is not only irrational but it also hinders progress and wellbeing.
An excellent read Hitchen's prose is a joy to read. The wit with which he tackles this issue is truly great. Enjoyed it
Highest quality writing When I heard Reverend Al Sharpton recommend this book for the quality of the writing and as I hadn't read Mr Hitchens before I jumped in. While he the author tested my vocabulary a bit, no bad thing, I haven't enjoyed a book so much in ages. Yes it presents a solid viewpoint as the title suggests but it very much informs and puts the various aspects in relation to one another. While saddened to see Mr Hitchens is no longer with us I look forward to reading more of the works he has left for all to enjoy. Hopefully they will live up to "God is not Great".
Gran libro Excelente lectura y excelente traducción. Una gran argumentación contra los grandes mitos que aún tiene nuestra sociedad. Es una lástima que Hitchens ya no esté con nosotros.
