Una historia del Cálculo bien narrada. La narración nos lleva de la mano desde Arquímedes hasta nuestros días, pasando por Galileo, Descartes, Fermat, Kepler y por supuesto por Newton y Leibniz, para explicarnos qué es el cálculo, cómo lo descubrimos y para qué se utiliza. Seguramente, este texto vendría muy bien como apoyo a los estudiantes que se inician en esta rama de las matemáticas para ponerles en contexto lo que están aprendiendo.
Las leyes físicas del Universo tienen un lenguaje: las matemáticas Un libro excelente, riguroso y ameno. No hay que ser un experto en matemáticas aplicadas como el autor para disfrutar y aprender con su lectura. Por mi profesión ( soy físico ) ya conocía el trabajo científico del autor, pero me ha sorprendido su faceta de comunicador de temas tan "sencillo", "lógicos" y a la vez complejos.
Excellent overview for the mathematically-challenged An interesting and understandable history of calculus, from about 250 BC to the present day. I've always thought it started off with Newton and Leibniz, but apparently elements of it have been around for thousands of years. I've done a few calculus courses over the years, and I wish I'd read this book first, it would have put everything into context, and made it all a bit more understandable. A word of warning for Kindle users - be careful which font you chose, otherwise some of the mathematical symbols can disappear! I found empty space where 1/3 and pi (the symbol) should have been, until I experimented with the fonts, and up they popped.
