Since the first screening of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, New Zealand has become the embodiment of Middle-earth to millions of movie-goers and Tolkien readers the world over. This definitive full-colour guidebook showcases the principal movie set locations around New Zealand as seen in all three films. A perfect reference book for everyone enchanted by the beauty of the locations in the movie trilogy, it contains valuable background information and exclusive anecdotes about the filming, with sections written specially by Peter Jackson, Alan Lee, Richard Taylor and Barrie Osbourne, plus contributions from the cast and crew.
and some great background information Lovely images and descriptions of locations from the LotR trilogy, and some great background information. Very good inspiration for my trip to New Zealand! Even contains a suggested travel itinerary. Only thing I am a bit dissatisfied with is that when you read about a location, the scene from the movie is described in the text, and is sometimes hard to find. It would be nice with a fact box with the scene, and possibly a small picture of the movie scene to compare. Note: if you are expecting a detailed walkthrough of how the movie was made, this is not the book - it is, as it says, a location guidebook.
The Essential Guide to the Land of the Hobbits. Having already visited New Zealand and visited many of the sites where the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series were made, this book provides everything that would be needed to ensure you could make the most out of a trip to New Zealand. I am sure that it will prove to be most useful when wee take our second trip to this wonderful country. Len and Dawn Powell.
