Contains spoilers The widow of pale harbour had be drawn in from the very first page. To say it’s a page turner is an understatement! Again I found Fox’s writing so utterly powerful and compelling.I don’t know where to begin... an insidious town, full of superstitious folk, dangerously filled with whispers down the lane, an achingly romance, full of deception and macabre murders with a poe theme. The widow of pale harbour is a superb gothic romance and sinister story. Throughout it was atmospheric and held this mysterious fog. Not once was my attention lost. I found it so incredibly hard to put down. I found it was fast paced but at the same time not too much was given away too soon. The deeper I got into the book the more compelled I was to keep reading. The build up is nothing but out standing. A classic tale of cat and Mouse. A tale of who dunnit. Fox was a master at casting suspicion on characters. It really made me think of my perceptions of the characters, was I judging them wrong? Was Helen’s intentions harmful? The plot twist i did find some what obvious ( as I found the little hints throughout the book) but it still held a bit of shock value. The Edgar Allen Poe themed murders was genius and just added a more sinister twist. I was not expecting Poe themed murders. Fox once again crafts a beautiful achingly romance between to two characters. Their emotions were so raw it felt like a perfume coming off the pages. It was beautifully written and intense. Their love is so pure from start to finish. The only way I can describe their love is .. soulmates. Two tormented souls coming together as one. Although Sophy was a damsel in this tale there was so much female empowerment and bravery. I just love them so much. The gothic symbolism really pays off with not only the entire story but the love between Gabriel and Sophy. The Heavy rain storm helped symbolise the lack of control the characters have over one another. Also, Symbolising their vulnerability to elements and their foes. This sets such powerful scene. The lust for revenge Jasper had I found very powerful in symbolism. The facade he gave of such an innocent perosn but underneath a monster was lurking. I really cannot recommend this book enough! Very quickly Fox has become one of my favourite authors. If there’s one book you should read this year let it be this. I’ve tried not to give too much away as I think the more mystery the better... you’ll enjoy the story
Good storyline I have read this authors 2 books and did enjoy them this one I would say is a historical romance with a twist
Historical Scary.... first rate read Superb historical drama with an ethereal atmosphere, fabulously drawn characters and a real page turner.
