“This book is fantastic! David Hogsette has produced a very important work on a very important topic! I’m a huge believer in supplementary solo training. It can do so much to enhance our martial development. However, for many, it can be difficult to know what to do when there is no instructor there to guide us. This is where this awesome book comes in! Not only does the book cover all elements of solo training, in a way that ensures functional relevance and seamless integration with all important partner training, but it does so in a way that excites and motivates! Read this book and you will want to solo train, and you will do so productively. Highly recommended!” —Iain Abernethy, 7th Dan Karate“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, what a timely and fitting book for martial artists throughout the world! Good book Good book. One for all martial artists to have on the shelf.
A practical approach to training alone. I can see this being a book that I come back to time and time again until I almost have it memorized. I’ve actually had the pleasure to learn from David Hogsette Sensei in person - 1.5 hour drive each way, a drive I made twice a week for a few months until I had to move to a different state. Not only was Training Ronin Style released at the perfect time during coronavirus, but it’s a book that COUNTLESS martial arts practitioners, who often train alone for various reasons, have been waiting for. This book is NOT filled with useless facts or history lessons, although what’s relevant is absolutely included. Training Ronin Style is filled with solid foundations in warming up, kihon applications, kata/bunkai and even conditioning! It can truly offer any martial arts practitioner, regardless of style, the tools to continue growing within their own system - without the need for a training partner. A practical approach to training alone, I can’t recommend it enough!
